TUI BLUE Bahari, Royal Zanzibar and Neptune Pwani demonstrate another important side of the market: large resorts can still feel connected to their destination when local food, architecture, activities and landscape remain visible within the experience.

There is also a wider reason these resorts matter to Tanzania.

For travellers arriving from the Serengeti, Ngorongoro or another safari destination, Zanzibar offers an extraordinarily natural second chapter. A morning might begin watching wildlife on the mainland; little more than a flight later, the experience has moved to the Indian Ocean.
